Royal Bengal Tigers of Ranthambore National Park

Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their striking beauty, agility, and strength. India is globally recognized as a top destination to spot them, hosting 75% of the world’s remaining wild Royal Bengal tigers

With less than 4,000 of these tigers left in India, Ranthambore National Park & Tiger Reserve is one of the premier locations to photograph these impressive and endangered cats. Bengal tigers can run nearly 40 miles per hour, jump 20 – 30 feet, and are extremely adept swimmers, making them a thrill to observe in their natural habitat.

Once a private hunting ground for the Maharaja of India, Ranthambore National Park is a historic protected region of India in partnership with 9 other reserves operating under the 1973 initiative Project Tiger. The beautiful lakes, dhok trees, and rolling hills with golden grasses create a magical scene for any wildlife and nature photographer. Each day, we travel the region via safari vehicles with local experts to spot these big cats located on the property, often near water holes where their prey is often also found.

The land hosts many other species like Sloth bears, Jackals, Bengal foxes, Caracals, Chinkaras, Leopards, Sambars, Blue bulls, Chital deer, Wild boars, Indian antelopes, Asian palm civets, MongeeseBengal monitor lizardsand many species of birds, such as owls, herons, lapwings, weavers, partridges, peacocks, Hoopoes, Black drongos, terns, robins, starlings, and geese.

We’ve purposely selected this location to maximize our opportunities and make best use of our time to spot tigers, and during the best season to increase our chances of capturing some stellar wildlife activities. During our days in Ranthambore, the group will enjoy 12+ photo safaris searching for tigers, giving you unparalleled opportunities to create the shot of your dreams.

Throughout this excursion, you will learn how to compose compelling images, work with the weather and lighting conditions to take full advantage of the environment, and master the technical aspects of photography. Whether you’re a beginner photographer or a seasoned pro, our experienced instructors will provide personalized instruction and guidance to help you improve your skills and take your wildlife and landscape photography to the next level.

This workshop offers in-the-field instruction to best hone in your images and streamline your creative visions, as well as post-workshop image reviews and editing sessions to continue practicing skills and techniques learned on the workshop once you’ve returned home.

This comprehensive wildlife adventure is not to be missed, so sign up now to be prepared to create lasting memories and stunning photographs that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

What Sets my workshops apart

I believe in order to truly enjoy your experience, and to receive the most out of an adventure photography workshop, we must maintain small group sizes with a very high ratio of instructors to participants. I’ve limited this workshop to a maximum of 6 participants and 2 instructors so everyone has an optimal view from inside our vehicles.

This is a unique educational excursion, and by capping the group size, despite immense interest, our team ensures everyone gets the attention and one-on-one instruction they need to make once in a lifetime images.

My workshops are distinctive in that they’re fully inclusive– your tuition cost covers all expenses from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart New Delhi, India. We provide our guests the best possible accommodations, dining options, and unique educational opportunities in the region.

As workshop leaders, my team and I take your trust in our expertise very seriously. We work in tandem with the respective National Park Service of any photo locations, and always operate under the proper insurance, permits, and certifications.

What you will learn

You will be accompanied by Juan Pons and a local wildlife expert during this workshop. Juan is an accomplished professional wildlife and travel photographer and photographic educator who has a deep passion for the outdoors and wildlife conservation.

Juan and his team believe the best way to teach is by demonstrating, and to this end, we will be shooting alongside you, showing you our technique, and sharing our love and knowledge of wildlife and the landscape. However, our priority is always YOU, and assisting you to get the best images YOU can get.

The biggest advantage of having small groups is the flexibility they provide for customizing and adjusting our schedule to accommodate both to the unpredictable weather and the interests of the group as a whole. This allows us to cover only those topics that you are all interested in, including:

• Techniques for creating exciting and captivating wildlife images

• Best use of your equipment

• Post-processing demos to enhance the quality of your images

• Image reviews

What to expect

My workshops are fairly intensive experiences, and as such, you should not expect this to be a leisurely vacation. My goal is to capture the best images we can during our time in this remarkable location. This means there will be days we begin very early and return to our lodging very late. However, we will always have breaks and lunch rest hours.

On this workshop, you will fly into and depart from New Delhi, India (Airport code DEL). You should expect to receive important instructions from my team with details to secure your flights 6 months prior to the workshop.

Then, about 2-3 months prior to the workshop, you will start hearing from me and my team on a regular basis. I will provide you with a Participant Info Packet with all relevant details, as well as go over more details to get you inspired and thinking about the images you want to capture during the workshop. These provided documents will list all recommended clothing, equipment, and even discounts for gear you may want to acquire for this excursion.

Pre-departure group zoom conference

My assistant, Jaclyn, and I are always available to answer any questions you may have leading up to the excursion- simply call or email and we can help you as best we can.

Additionally, we will schedule a Zoom meeting 8-10 weeks prior to the start of our workshop. There, you can meet your fellow workshop participants, ask any questions before traveling, receive insights and recommendations for reference books, and much more.

Tuition

Tuition for the workshop is $8,495.00 USD for double occupancy per person.

If you would like to enjoy private accommodation during the workshop, that can be arranged for an additional supplement of $1,000.00 USD.

Typical Travel Itinerary

When photographing wildlife and nature, the key is to remain flexible and open to adjustments in order to maximize our daily itinerary as needed to observe the behavior of the wildlife and lighting conditions.

Please keep in mind that this is a sample itinerary and is subject to alterations:

Day 1: Arrival into New Delhi, India

Clients will arrive into New Delhi (Airport code DEL) anytime on this day.

Our team has coordinated private pick-up to and from New Delhi Airport to an area hotel, and our local Indian guides will be awaiting your arrival at the airport.

Guest will check into their respective hotels and enjoy a restful evening before the trip kicks off the next day!

Day 2: Road Trip To Ranthambore

After an early breakfast, our group makes the 5 hour drive to Ranthambhore National Park. If you’ve never visited India, this alone will be an exhilarating experience and great start to the trip, so keep your cameras ready!

Upon arrival to our lodging, we have lunch and proceed for our first tiger safari of the workshop. Our local experts have organized a very comprehensive schedule of photo safaris to the regions in which tigers are most known to inhabit. The landscape consists of dry deciduous forests, hills, and grasslands, so the region’s sparsely found lakes and ponds are sought-after for amazing encounters with tigers while on safari. We’ll enjoy a few hours of exploring the environment before returning to our lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3-8: Exploring Ranthambore’s Far Reaches

During the next 6 full days, we explore different parts of Ranthambhore during morning and afternoon photo safaris. We commence the day with coffee at 5:00 am and 5:30 departure. Return for breakfast at 9:30 am, rest, edit, or enjoy the sights. We start again on an afternoon photo safari 3 pm until sundown.

On our outings, we’ll search for any and all of the incredible wildlife found in the region, but we’ll have a main objective of sighting the Bengal Tigers. Other species we could see include predators like Sloth Bears, Jackals, Fox, Sambar, Blue Bull, Chital Deer, Wild Boar, Indian Antelope, and many more. Bird lovers will enjoy the over 250 bird species found in the park, such as owls, herons, lapwings, weavers, partridges, peacocks, Hoopoe, Black drongo, terns, robins, starlings, and geese.

In the evenings, clients can opt to join editing sessions and image reviews with the instructors, or retire to their comfortable lodgings and rest while taking in the serene setting surrounding our accommodations.

Day 9: Journey to Agra

After breakfast, we make the few hour car ride to the historic city of Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. Here, we can experience a bit of city life in the afternoon and evening, or enjoy some rest in the hotel before dinner.

Day 10: Taj Mahal at Sunrise and Return to New Delhi Airport

Early this morning, we set out to photograph the Taj Mahal at sunrise. We will then enjoy a guided tour where the history of the monument is explained. After breakfast, we will visit the Agra Fort and Itmad-ud-Daulah.

Following a lunch stop at a local restaurant, guests will be driven back to the New Delhi Airport or an area hotel you’ve opted to overnight in. Guests can opt to fly out of New Delhi anytime after 10 PM on this date.
